"What I love most about this show is that the content is evergreen," says Shankar. The show also explores the science of change with experts like Adam Grant and Angela Duckworth. You’ll hear intimate conversations with people like Tiffany Haddish, Kacey Musgraves, and Riz Ahmed, as well as real-life inspirations, like John Elder Robison, who undergoes experimental brain stimulation to deepen his emotional intelligence, Daryl Davis, a Black jazz musician who inspires hundreds of KKK members to leave the Klan, and Shankar herself, who had her own “slight change of plans” earlier this year. Her insights into human behavior ultimately led her to create A Slight Change of Plans-Apple Podcasts’ Best Show of the Year in 2021. “I was forced to try and figure out who I was, and who I could be, without the violin." Maya soon discovered a new path in the field of cognitive science, where she earned her PhD as a Rhodes Scholar studying how and why we change. “My whole childhood revolved around the violin, but that changed in a moment when I injured my hand playing a single note,” says Shankar, who was studying under Itzhak Perlman at the Juilliard School at the time. Apple Podcasts’ Best Show of the Year 2021 Editor's Note: Maya Shankar blends compassionate storytelling with the science of human behavior to help us understand who we are and who we become in the face of a big change.

This situation is common when a resource is split between multiple tasks at one time. Assigned Amount and Available Units Assigning fewer units of a resource to a task causes the duration to be longer than the effort, because less of the resource’s time and energy is being spent on that task. Efficiency of Assigned Resources Assigning less-efficient resources to a task causes the duration to be longer than the effort, because the resource takes more time to achieve the same amount of effort. Number of Assigned Resources Assigning more resources to a task generally causes the task to take less time, because the required effort gets completed sooner. The most common variables are described below adjusting them can help bring a project in line with the desired timeline for completion. Multiple factors influence both duration and effort. If both values are fixed, then assigning resources changes the assigned percentage. Regardless of which value is calculated, you can always edit either value manually. When you assign or unassign staff and equipment resources, the value that isn’t fixed re-calculates its value the other field stays the same. The duration and the effort of a task can change depending on the resources you assign.Įach task has a setting in the Resource Allocation section of the Task inspector which controls whether to keep the duration fixed, the effort fixed, or both. Note that Material resources don’t contribute to effort, only Staff and Equipment resources do. A task with a duration of 4 hours, with 2 resources assigned at 100%, has an effort value of 8 hours. Also note that the resources assigned to a task may have different working hours than the project as a whole, and thus the displayed duration of a task may not match up exactly with the amount of effort it takes.Įffort is the total amount of working time put into a task by all assigned resources. Note that non-working times don’t count if a task starts one afternoon and doesn’t complete until the next morning, or spans a lunch break, only the working hours are counted. If the task begins at 8:00 and ends at 12:00, that’s a duration of 4 hours. Position in the task outline tasks that are higher in the outline are scheduled earlier.ĭuration and effort are two key concepts intimately involved with the process of scheduling tasks and leveling your project for optimal efficiency.ĭuration is how long a task takes in actual working hours in the schedule. Task Priority, as set in the Priority column of the task outline. Requirements to end by a certain time, such as locked end dates, constraints, or being a prerequisite to a task with such a requirement. In judging which task to put first, the following criteria matter, in this order: Tasks moved back by resource leveling are scheduled by resource availability.ĭuring leveling, OmniPlan has to make an educated decision about which task should get access to a resource first, and which tasks should be pushed back by a resource dependency. When you level the project (or whenever a change is made, if Project ▸ Automatically Level Resources is selected), OmniPlan rearranges tasks which have resources assigned, to make sure no resource is being used at more than 100% of its availability. Tasks can also be scheduled as late as possible or locked (with the lock icons above the Start and End dates in the Schedule section of the Task inspector, or by holding Command and clicking either end of the task’s bar in the Gantt chart) so they are not affected by leveling. Resource availability is not taken into consideration, so resources may end up overutilized (this is why leveling is an important additional step). This means the task is placed at the very earliest time possible, taking into consideration start and end constraints, and dependencies on other tasks. The Task inspector’s Scheduling method indicates how OmniPlan should determine when a task is to occur in the project.īy default and prior to leveling, new tasks are scheduled as early as constraints allow. However, due to the growing number of fraud cases, refunds have slowed down in recent months. “These fraudsters are much more aggressive than they were in the past, and they are pressuring tellers to override internal systems that might flag a potentially suspicious transaction,” Paul Benda, a senior vice president at the American Bankers Assn.īanks generally reimburse customers if they are victims of check fraud within days. This allows fraudsters to create new checks using old account data. There have been reports of criminals creating fake entities out of personal data obtained from a check, or even opening new lines of credit or businesses with that data as well. Some criminals are going further and using the information found on a check to gather sensitive personal data on a potential victim. The most common type of check fraud is what’s known as check washing, where a criminal steals the check from the mail and proceeds to change the payee’s name on the check and, additionally, the amount of money. postal boxes, looking for envelopes that appear to be either bill payments or checks being mailed. Like the MatePad Paper, the feel is similar to writing on actual paper. The Note Air 2 Plus’s screen has a slight texture to it, creating resistance when used with the bundled stylus. The ability to alter brightness was great, and since I was able to use the Kindle app, I could easily highlight passages I enjoyed and make notes using the split-screen feature and the Notes app. I enjoyed reading books on the Note Air 2 Plus, with the words looking crisp and clear against the background. Overall, though, I was always able to view the content displayed on the screen. Personally, my preference is for a yellow-toned display, but the colder tones proved handy for reading outdoors, or in other brightly lit areas. There are no LEDs here, but you can alter screen brightness from the pull-down menu, choosing between yellow or blue light and dimming options, which I found worked great in most environments. Nevertheless, the Note Air 2 Plus remains a great e-reader and basic tablet, although those looking for a device to watch media should opt for a tablet with a more vibrant display, such as an iPad. I did download YouTube, although the Note Air 2 Plus’s refresh rate wasn’t good enough to run fast-paced video content, which made me question why it was supported at all. However, the monochrome display does limit the device slightly, making pictures in books and articles more difficult to distinguish. As someone who struggles to look at screens for too long a period, it was never glaring and ideal to use in darker environments. The Note Air 2 Plus’s E-Ink display has a 1404 x 1872 resolution and 227 DPI, which makes it easier on the eyes than an OLED panel. Nevertheless, I was grateful for its inclusion. Bluetooth support is present, but since I was mostly using the Note Air 2 Plus for reading and browsing, it was used rather sparingly. However, I did find that audio quality was decent. The inclusion of an E-Ink display meant that I didn’t ever use this device to watch video content, despite an app being available for download. Despite leaning into the tablet format, there are no volume buttons – although you can alter the audio from within the device. The Note Air 2 Plus comes with one port, a USB-C charging port, and a power button. I was able to magnetically dock the stylus onto the side of the device, rarely having to deal with it falling off – which can’t be said for the Huawei MateBook E, whose cover doesn’t have a clip to secure it. Image Credit (Trusted Reviews)Īs well as offering protection, the case can also be used to prop up the e-reader, which proved rather handy for reading on the train. Overall, the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus is an attractive and sleek e-reader, more so than my own blue Kindle Paperwhite. The attractive green hue is further enhanced by orange accents on the rear of the device and on the front logo. The case did prove handy for keeping the e-reader protected on long journeys, but at home, I was happy to go without, in the main so that I could admire the deep pine green colour of the device. In addition, the clip-on mechanism meant that it was never at risk of falling off or becoming displaced, unlike the case on the Huawei MatePad Paper. I chose not to use the bundled cover for the majority of my time using the device, but I appreciated its inclusion. Its weight makes it feel sturdy, while the Carta glass screen that’s resistant to scratches and smudges meant the I could throw the device into my bag without worry. There’s some heft to the device, the Note Air 2 Plus weighing in at 445g, although I found it comfortably to hold in one hand. The Note Air 2 Plus looks like an e-reader, with the thicker bezel on the left side of the display making it easier to hold, in the same vein as the Kindle Oasis. I’ve been using the Note Air 2 Plus for the past few weeks, and here’s how I have got on. The last device I reviewed that was similar was the Huawei MatePad Paper, and I’m pleased to report that the Note Air 2 Plus manages its execution better, with fewer latency issues and improved performance overall. The model on review here is the Note Air 2 Plus it reminds me a great deal of the Amazon Kindle range, featuring an E-Ink display and a focus on productivity over pure content consumption. The Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus is a tablet and e-reader in one, arriving with a Boox Pine Green stylus with which you can doodle and take notes as you read. It is not in any way comprehensive - the decision to cut aside Super Mario 3D World for its own re-release next year makes some sort of sense, while the decision to not include Super Mario Galaxy 2, effectively an expansion pack for the original Galaxy which is here in all its glory, does not. It is more than that - thankfully - but it still feels like less than it could be. Super Mario 3D All-Stars, in comparison, can sometimes feel like nothing more than a ROM dump. Availability: Out on September 18th on Switch, available only until March 31st 2021.It was more a series of remakes than a remaster. It wasn't just a compilation either - there was a significant visual makeover that gave everything the same Super Nintendo sparkle, improved the audio and introduced save files for the older games. The original Super Mario All-Stars, released back in 1993 on the SNES, was a fairly comprehensive run through all the mainline 2D games to date. That moniker Nintendo has gone for with this three game bundle - bringing together Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy - doesn't help. Here are two of the greatest games ever made - and Super Mario Sunshine - in a compilation that's in so many ways lacklustre. If you want a microcosm of the head-scratching conundrum you'll often find at the heart of the company it's here in this, Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Two of Nintendo's finest, and one of its most interesting, come together in a compilation that isn't worthy of their greatness. This scheme puts the burden of correct organization on authors, not users, which is better for support load for third party authors – third party authors already need to know how the scenery system works in detail.X-Plane would automatically load all overlays from within these packs first, then global airports, then all base meshes. This idea came up during some discussions in the third party developer Slack channel: we could introduce a scheme within scenery packs to allow a single scenery pack to include both base meshes and overlays. Would users still be able to customize ranking? If so, would weirdly-ordered packs make it difficult to prioritize new packs?.How would authors define where they want their packs installed relative to other packs?.This approach would be similar to automatic prioritization, except priorities would be explicit and cheap to discover.Īuthors would opt in some kind of default behavior would have to be defined for legacy packs. If a pack contains an overlay and a mesh DSF, how do we categorize it? If the scenery packs are in some scattered order with meshes on top of overlays, where do we put the new scenery? Author-Selected RankingsĪnother lever we can pull is to allow scenery authors to annotate their packs (perhaps with a text file or new library.txt directive) indicating the appropriate installation ranking for the pack. However, I think in practice it may not be practical – it would be a lot of file sniffing by X-Plane at startup, and the categories of mesh and overlay are a little bit fluid. If this were to work, the win would be that it would “just work” with no changes for third parties or users. One of the strengths of this idea is that it’s really dumb and simple, and sometimes when the problem is “we have a complex mess,” simple and easy to understand is better than “really clever.” Automatically Prioritize Packs Upon DiscoveryĪn alternative to two install locations would be to have X-Plane determine the pack type upon first discovery and then rank it in the priority list in the middle if it’s a mesh. Is either folder “Custom Scenery” for compatibility? If not, do we simply have no “Custom Scenery” folder, or does that break too many add-ons?.Where do library packs go? Library use isn’t mutually exclusive with overlays or meshes.
Maybe a specific episode, maybe a general themes. Over the next few weeks, every Thursday, I’ll be reviewing one cartoon. This is part 2 of a series of children TV reviews. Remove Goodway from office, before it’s too late. You have a mayor who siphons your taxpayer money to live inside her office and clean her relative’s statue.Ī vote of no confidence is the least that should happen. You have a chicken – an actual chicken – as deputy mayor. You have a panicky mayor, who needs a 10-year-old and a bunch of puppies (I can’t stress this enough: a child and some mutts) to keep your town safe. I’ve been a journalist for more than a dozen years, and I’ve seen some stuff, so let me say this: People of Adventure Bay, you need to see what’s going on in your town. And this is one of her listed catchphrases: “ What are we gonna do, what are we gonna do, what are we gonna do?!” No sign of effective, strong leadership there. Her anxiety is frequently uncalled for as she is quick to refer to any and all unplanned events as ‘disasters’.” “While Mayor Goodway always looks very out together on the outside, she’s usually on the verge of falling apart on the inside. Read into that what you will.Īlso - this is the fourth thing, if you’re counting - she “lives at City Hall”, according to a source (the video here. She looks after it and gets upset if the statue gets even the smallest of smudges. She’s erected a statue to him and holds a ceremony in his honour, too. The first mayor of Adventure Bay, in fact. Mayor Goodway’s great-great-great-great grandfather was also mayor. The third thing to keep in mind is the possibility of nepotism, or at least historical patronage. How is this administration allowed to remain in place? Serious questions need to be asked. “In ‘Pups’ Adventures in Babysitting’, Mayor Goodway reveals and confirms that Chickaletta is the Deputy Mayor of Adventure Bay …” But it gets worse: check this from the Chickaletta page of the same wiki I mentioned earlier: She dotes on this chicken endlessly, often to the detriment of her townspeople. And she cares more about this chicken than anything else. An actual chicken that lives in her purse. Secondly, Goodway walks around with a “purse chicken”. This also should be reason enough to remove her from office. And his team are dogs, one of which, Marshall, is an utter moron. She’s outsourced that service (itself a somewhat dodgy practice because I’m sure it’s a municipal competency – and I wonder if fair tender/contracts were ever issued for this jol) to a bunch of puppies and a child! Yes. And imagine you’re a taxpayer in Adventure Bay, or a business owner.įirstly, this mayor has not provided for your safety in any way, shape or form. Now let’s talk about this Mayor Goodway for a moment. The PAW Patrol are a team of puppies, led by Ryder, who save the day - or at least that’s what the theme songs says. According the PAW Patrol wiki i t’s made up of a beach, a bay, Seal Island, a few shops, a playground, and a farm. Just to catch you up: Goodway is the mayor of Adventure Bay, a town best known as the home of the PAW Patrol. Mayor Goodway, the “number one” citizen of Adventure Bay. Something is very very wrong with Mayor Goodway’s administration. I’ve written about scandal.īut when I see the goings on in Adventure Bay, I’m shocked to my very core. I’ve covered stories of municipal corruption, including of a mayor alleged that have helped his daughter secure lucrative government contracts (that mayor was later moved to a high commissioner post in London, big was removed for running it like a “spaza shop” – that story here. Just this week I found a copy of my first ever mainstream article it was about how convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik cheated in an exam at university. |
